Can I run Regedit on a drive that the computer didn't boot from?
I'll explain why. I regularly do a hard disk to disk copy backup of my
hard drive. Recently, I purchased the 2005 versions of some EA Sports videogames and unistalled my previous 2003 versions. The teenagers who play them (I'm a counselor of teenagers) liked the 2003 versions better. But to reinstall them, I need the Key from the back of the CD cases which I had thrown out. However, since I have a backup of the hard disk, the registry entrees are there and I just need to enter them in the registry of the current C: drive and the games will run. But it is a pain to disconnect the current C; drive, connect the backup hard disk copy the registry entrees to a text file, reconnect the current hard disk etc. I'd rather just put the backed up hard disk on the secondary controller and check the registry on it. How can I run regedit on a disk that is not the currently bootable disk? |

You surely only have to do it once if you save the Registry entries,
preferably by exporting them to a .reg file that you can use. If you really want to read a non-current Registy: Regdat - Browse old Win95/Win98/Me Registry Files. http://people.freenet.de/h.ulbrich http://people.freenet.de/h.ulbrich/regdat.zip http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000023756 RegExport is a basic version of Regdat designed for users who want to occasionally export information from old Win9x/WinMe registry files. Registration rate is US $8. http://people.freenet.de/h.ulbrich http://people.freenet.de/h.ulbrich/regexp.zip ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/index.html In microsoft.public.win98.setup, J Golden wrote: I'll explain why.
