windows protection error

Default windows protection error

I install windows 98 on a machine and it installs fine but when i boot it up
i get this message " windows protection error you need to restart your
computer c:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd: missing/unable to load" i have tryed a
different windows 98 cd i have also tryed a different hard drive and still
same message.

i took the hard drive out of the computer that was giving me the message and
put it in another computer and i thought it was finished installing windows
but the next step we "setting up hardware and finialzing settings" so the
computer that was giving me that message must have a hardware problem.

Look at Setup.txt in the Windows folder and make sure you have ticked off
every item in the list before starting the install. Especially check that
you have disabled BIOS boot sector protection,and make sure you have
unplugged all unnecessary hardware.
