How To Delete Registry Backups
A friends PC keeps restoring an old registry, but that old
registry is bad. I have let it go ahead and do this, then cleaned out the registry, but in a few restarts it load the old copy again. How do I eliminate all the old copies, such that only the good one is available, and in doing so keep it from loading an old copy? Thanks, gm |

Search the hard drive for files named RB00?.CAB probably in c:\Windows\Sysbckup. RB stands for Registry Backup. Locate the RB file you know is defective and rename it e.g. RB002.XYZ (so in case of need you can restore its correct filename.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Why is the system replacing the registry with a backup? The first action
should be to fix this problem. Bad RAM is a common reason for detecting that the registry is corrupted, and it can also explain why that backup appears to be corrupted when reloaded. The system should be updating the backups at each startup. You should check why scanreg is not creating a new backup at each startup. Or, if it is creating a new backup, and that new backup appears to be corrupted when it gets restored, that is further confirmation that the problem is bad RAM and not a corrupted backup. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) wrote in message ...
