around, and is a VERY bad thing!) - www.lavasoftusa.com.......

Thanks for the smack, Mike!!

Noel,

I think you meant to type Ad-Aware. :-) I also suspect you meant to
type www.lavasoftusa.com as the URL you typed is likely to end up
with the user downloading unwanted adware rather than Ad-Aware. g

Noel,

To be honest I was surprised to see you posting as I thought that you
were living it up in Manchester tonight and perhaps posting from
someone's laptop in a pub only to then realise that the knees up is
tomorrow evening. :-)

A party, a do, or in this case "pie and a pint". "Knees up Mother Brown"
being a cockney ditty that dates back to Victorian times if not before.

From http://www.peevish.co.uk/slang/k.htm knees-up = Noun. A lively party.
{Informal}. E.g."There's going to be a knees-up at Jenny's tonight, it's
her birthday."

Durn it.....and it sounded so bad, lol. I bookmarked the page so I can
follow some of your wilder goings on, grin. Noel needs no excuse for a
pint (and perhaps a pie)!!

Off to have some supper myself.

Ah but this was, or rather will be, a special sort of pie and a pint as
Noel won't be putting his hand in his pocket. :-) I'm sure that Noel
will tell you all the gory details in due course - assuming that he will
be in a fit state to remember them. g

Oooohhhh....I can't wait to hear all about it. Assuming as you say that
he will remember any of it. (G) In Manchester, eh? Something to do
with that strange form of football you play?? (g, d, and r, as Noel
would say)

Cheers....Heather

Mike:
Looks like Noel is gone for the day, or the week, or maybe the whole month?
It all depends on the size of the pie, I guess, or is it the size of his
stomach? g.
One can pull his knees up only so far and that's it.

Default Windows Me - 'How To Guide'

Noel,
All I can say is that this site is one that was referred to back in my Me
days. Not that I complied with everything on the site and it has been a
long time since I have even looked through it......just remembered it as
being pretty good and detailed. If it is that bad, I sincerely apologize
and bow to your superior knowledge of the subject. I have removed it from
my Favorites list. One thing I did notice in your reply, shouldn't the
link for Adaware be http://www.lavasoft.de/ ???.....or did you post the link
to the 'bad site?'.....surely, not.
Heirloom, old and humbled

"Noel Paton" wrote in message

I can agree with most things in that site - but NOT sections 8, 9 or
16...... (more later - most likely tomorrow)
Section 18 is redundant if you're done the reinstall properly, as it
should have corrected any errors in the VMM32.vxd file - and if you
haven't done it properly, then the chances are that IE won't work)

As far as the tweaking section goes (#19) - most of those programs are not
worth the paper that they're written on (before printing!!)
I could list the problems, but I consider it a waste of everyone's time.
so I'll list the programs worth thinking about ( in the right
circumstances!!)
Adaware (properly called Ad-Ware, since a program called adaware also
floats around, and is a VERY bad thing!) - www.lavsoftusa.com
TweakUi - from (and ONLY from) -
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstati.../nttweakui.asp
Belarc Advisor from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Trend Micro's House Call at http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall

ALL of the others are unnecessary and in some cases WILL lead to
problems!!
If you have problems with Scandisk - find out what's causing the problem,
rather than working around it - the chances are that it's slowing your
system down anyhow!
System Restore should NEVER be removed - although there are circumstances
under which it may be appropriate to disable it.
CacheMan is an accident waiting to happen (flames, awaitedg)
WinRescue is total BS.
RamPage WILL kill your system if you give it half a chance
etc.... etc....

Really, H - I thought we had you better educated than this!!
I can see that I'm going to have to create another page of my own!

Add this one to the list, as well.

them

Try this instead

or
http://tinyurl.com/aqv9v

(it works better, anyhowg)

I've flagged it - hopefully we'll either get a new link, or they'll
reinstate the old one
