Suspected Trojan or Keyboard HiJack
I have encountered strange, intractable problems with a Windows 98 system
which include the following. - "My Computer" icon was renamed "CV" at some time in the past and cannot be changed back. - I can bring up the MS-DOS screen and prompt, but characters entered from the keyboard take a long time to enter. It is as if each is being examined before they are posted to the screen. - The same symptom occurs when i attempt to inter a command in the "Run" box. - When the machine sits for awhile and goes into "sleep" mode, moving the mouse, striking a key does not wake up the screen. It remains black. - Ctrl-Alt-Del does not bring up the expected Task Monitor, even though I can see that it is running thanks to IBTaskmon. - I have run every anti-spyware and diagnostic program I can find (to date) and have uncovered nothing. Any help would be appreciated. |

Suspected Trojan or Keyboard HiJack
- "My Computer" icon was renamed "CV" at some time in the past and cannot be changed back. Saying you cannot do something is not helpful. What have you attempted and what happened when you did? For example, did you right click the icon and select rename? If so, what happened? - I can bring up the MS-DOS screen and prompt, but characters entered from the keyboard take a long time to enter. It is as if each is being examined before they are posted to the screen. - The same symptom occurs when i attempt to inter a command in the "Run" box. - When the machine sits for awhile and goes into "sleep" mode, moving the mouse, striking a key does not wake up the screen. It remains black. - Ctrl-Alt-Del does not bring up the expected Task Monitor, even though I can see that it is running thanks to IBTaskmon. I think that it is very likely that some program running in the background is responsible for these problems.
