noel paton - icon cannot display in Control Panel
Noel,
A while ago, I read one of your responses pertaining to the above subject (or something to that effect). I cannot remember whether it is in the w98/me/2k/xp forum. I would like to read that again and hope you dont mind to point to that response again. I have tried to do a search in the ng or google but without any luck. Thanks. |

noel paton - icon cannot display in Control Panel
Noel is a frequent responder in Win ME, so try the newsgroup
microsoft.public.windowsme.general You might try a search in Google Groups like this: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=ic...ng=d&ie=UTF-8& Vary the search string if necessary. Another option is to post details of your exact problem so all can help. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html wrote: Noel, A while ago, I read one of your responses pertaining to the above subject (or something to that effect). noel paton - icon cannot display in Control Panel
Perhaps if you gave us an idea what icon does not display in your Control Panel, or
what error message you are receiving and when, someone here could help you. Noel is often found in the Win ME groups, BTW. Not knowing what your issue is, as you did not elaborate, I can only guess and supply general info. You also do not state if you are using Win98/98SE, or some other OS. To troubleshoot error messages in Control Panel: Click StartFindFiles or Folders. In the "Named" box, type: *.cpl and in the Look In drop-down box, select the C: drive. Click Find Now. Maximise the window and click on the heading "In Folder" to sort the files by directory. Look at the files listed in the \Windows\System directory. Double-click each file in turn...if some work, but one of the files gives you the error, that Control Panel file is corrupt. To fix the error you must replace the .cpl file using the Extract one file option of System File checker (SFC). How to use System File Checker (SFC) to extract a file: http://www.rickrogers.org/sfc.htm#1pp http://www.rickrogers.org/sfc.htm#2pp HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files: http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;129605#5 If none of the .cpl files works and they all give the error, they may be disabled in the Registry, or the Control.exe file may be damaged or corrupted by a virus. Description of Control Panel (.cpl) Files http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=149648 How to Troubleshoot Control Panel Issues in Windows http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=299923 If a particular Control Panel icon that should be present, is missing, and the associated .cpl file is present in the %windir%\System folder, then that particular ..cpl may be disabled in the Control.ini file's [Don't Load] section. If you get an Access Denied message when trying to open Control panel, extract a new copy of RUNDLL32.EXE from either your Windows 98 CD or from the CAB files on your hard drive, whichever you have, to the Windows folder, using the "Extract one file" option of System File Checker (SFC). -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "tim" wrote in message ...
