I have added winXP to my 98SE system so now I am dual booting. I cannot boot into safe mode for 98 anymore; anybody know how to. I can get into XP safe mode I just have XP on for XP only programs, my main OS is 98. Derek -- |

Probably it is due to XP-radiation. However, I have found these

When you get to the boot manager select 98 from the menu if it isn't already using
the up/down arrows, press Enter then immediately press/hold CTRL down until you get to the startup menu for 98. If 98 is already selected as the boot OS of choice skip the up/down. I found you had to be Quick Draw McGraw with the ctrl or Windows will still load. -- Brian A. Jack of all trades, Master of none. One can never truly be a master as there is always more to learn. F8 won't work because by the time you get to the boot menu to choose OS you are already past the point where F8 will function. 1. Boot into normal mode 2. StartRun Type in "msconfig" (without quotes) and hit enter. 3. Click on the startup tab and then on Advanced. 4. In the "Advanced Troubleshooting Settings" check the box for "Enable startup Menu". 5. Ok your way out and restart when you are asked if you want to restart. 6. To get back to normal mode repeat the above sequence but uncheck the box that enables the startup menu. ***************** Also 1. StartProgramsAccessoriesSystem ToolsSystem Information. 2. Click on "Tools". System configuration Utility. 3. On the General Tab select Diagnostic Startup. OK and restart windows. On Win98 startup menu choose "SafeMode". Repeat above and select normal mode to get out of Safe Mode startup. |

No need to enable the 98 Startup Menu or Safe Mode. Holding down the CTRL key
immediately after pressing Enter works to get the 98 Startup Menu. I know because I do it. -- Brian A. Jack of all trades, Master of none. I tried the msconfig method and the CTRL key after the enter key method;
both worked fine - thanks guys. The CTRL key method was much faster - so I'll stick with that in future. Once again thanks. Derek "Brian A." GoneFishn@aFarAwayLake wrote in message ...
