Default EPSON Despooler Error

Hi.

When i go to print to my Epson Stylus Colour 400 in
windows i get an EPSON Despooler Error "Initialisation
failed: could not open the spool file"

The printer prints fine from dos.

If i go into msconfig and turn off symantec internet
security it works fine.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling NIS and the
printer driver (latest one from epson.com.au)

Any Clues?

This is from
http://files.support.epson.com/txt/sc400_/sc400_f1.txt

If you see conflict error messages or printing is very slow, the
problem may be caused by temporary files in the EPSON Spool Manager
temporary file directory. To change the Spool Manager settings, you
will first need to make a unique directory on your hard drive, such
as C:\SPOOL. Open the Spool Manager4 and make sure the EPSON Stylus
COLOR 400 is selected. Click on Options, select Default Spool
Directory. Change the directory to the new directory you created and
click OK. Open the Queue, Setup and make sure the spool directory
changed to the new unique directory. Make sure the box for "Use
Print Manager for this port" is not checked, then click OK. Close
the Spool Manager, restart the computer and try printing again.

Epson also says if you can print from one application and not another try using LQ570
printer driver.

If turning off NIS allows the printer to work correctly, then it stands to
reason that there is some setting in this product that is causing the
problem. Within NIS, you will have various options for setting the security
level so I suggest that you check these out and perhaps play with different
settings that might affect your ability to print.

Also, be sure that you check with Symantec for any updates. I have found
that fairly often their updates cause problems with some systems and these
problems are fixed by later updates.

If all this fails, you might want to try the free Zone Alarm for your
Internet Security so that you can print.
