Default Specific problem with Win98se

Installed Win98se on old eMachine 366c. Installation worked perfectly. I immediately opened IE5 (original browser) and tried to do a windows update. Found out IE5 is not compatible with the newer versions of MS update. Cannot seem to update IE5 to IE6 so I can properly update this old software. Any one have a work around this issue and does anyone know if MS update works at all for Win98se? I know it is not supported by MS anymore. I am not sure if that means there is NO update path.
