I installed a spam protector today and now when I try to
use a variety of programs ,I get an "illegal operation"

Go to Control Panel/Add/remove programs. If the spam
protector is in the list select to uninstall it. That is
if the program itself does not have it's own uninstall.
Once it is uninstalled. If the machine still comes up
with the errors? You may need to do a scanreg/restore to a
previous date before the install of the offending program.
