Default cd rom drive is still missing

Hi people--Thanks for all the replies to my first post. My problem still
exists. I tried everything that you all suggested. I tried to remove the ide
controllers in safemode and let windows detect them in normal mode. Which
windows did. Still exclamation mark beside primary and secondary ide
controllers in device manager. It does not list cd rom in device manager in
normal mode, but does in safemode. It lists a cd controller in normal mode
mitsumi double speed cd rom controller which has an exclamation mark beside
it. Still no cd rom drive letter when I click on my computer. The drive
letter before it disappeared was m. I thought that kind of off since normally
its d or e. The pc is an hp pavilion xt953 with pentium 3 and windows
millenium. I'm at my wits end with this machine. If anyone out there has
anymore ideas, I'd really appreciate a reply. --

Hi

Turn you system off, then physically disconnect and remove the cd drive from
your system, reboot. Then turn your system off **completely** again. When
your cd drive is re-connected, reboot and let Windows re-detect it. If that
doesn't work, think about purchasing a new cd drive.
