You need to enter BIOS (or CMOS settings), aka "Setup", and save the settings.
How to enter BIOS is usually mentioned somewhere--by pressing DEL key, or F2, or F10 (or even others), depending on the make/model of computer. -- Gary S. Many times it will set the FSB for the cpu to a default setting that is lower than it should be. For instance, if you have an AMD XP2200 that is supposed to be set at a FSB of 133MHz so that it runs at aprox 1.8GHz it may have defaulted to a FSB of 100MHz so that the cpu now runs at only 1.35GHz. Check your manual or go online to see how to make the proper corrections for your motherboard BIOS. Be sure you select Save when you get out of the BIOS if you're sure you didn't mess up. If you think you totally screwed up while in the BIOS, just close out choosing NOT to save. Once you get it set up the way you want it, record the changes for future use.
