Default No Sound

after reading various posts about having no sound, I
understand about rebooting in Safe mode, but if I check
the Device Manager under SAFE MODE and look for all
occurrences of "SOUND" I find about 10 different things
from the sound card its self to wave modem to game
controllers etc. In NORMAL MODE there are only 3 items
pertaining to Sound.

So should I be deleting everying (all 10 items) in SAFE
MODE then rebooting to normal mode so that WinME re-
installs my drivers for my sound cards?

If it isn`t detected, does that mean I will have to
recover my system using the recovery disk?

Thanks
Terry

OK, chances are that the soundcard need re-installing.

Boot into Safe Mode (Press and hold the Shift key from a

COLD boot - i.e a
power switch-on) Cancel the Help Centre.
Right-Click the My Computer icon on the desktop and

select Properties and
choose Device Manager.

Look for ALL occurrences of Sound Cards (including games

controllers) and
'Remove' them all in Device Manager.

Shut down and re-boot (cold boot) your computer into

Normal Mode (boot
normally) and WinMe should re-detect your sound card and

attempt to install
the correct drivers.

N.B Ensure that you have the latest WinMe drivers for

your card - check the
card manufactures web site and download them if

necessary - direct the setup
wizard to the location of the 'new drivers'

All being well you should have your sound back again.
