Startup
I have Windows 98SE
I just increased my RAM to 384 I have run virus scans and spyware checker programs (Ad- aware, Spybot,Cool Web Search when necessary, Spyblaster is up-to-date and SpywareGuard is running and my computer seems to be clean. I am constantly emptying my Tempory Internet files and cleaning up Cookies, I clean out my tmp. files, I do Disk Cleanup, Scan, Defrag very often. I have recently installed DSL. I want to keep the following on my tray A-winpoet-service (2 computers icon), Zone Alarm 5 free, Task Scheduler, NAV 2004 auto protect, and Volume. I have my Zone Alarm items checked in Startup, My 5 Norton items, My items per Dell Load Power Profile (2), Scan Reg Systray, Plus Em-exe (I need this for notification of mouse battery level) InteliType (I need this for my hot keys to work, Verizon Online Dialer (I need this if I want to always be online). Note I also have AOL Broadband. With my old AOL Dialup Rnaapp used to close when I closed AOL. Sometimes it took 10 minutes. Now it seems to always be in my Close Programs Menu. In addition to this acsd (AOL 9.0 item does not always close either) Only thing I know to do to correct this is not use AOL. Note I have SpywareGuard on my tray also, but this loads after selecting it in Start - Programs. I believe if I restart my computer it automatically comes back. Re Real Player free version, I have unchecked Real Tray and TKBell in the Selective Startup, but if I use Real Player, it seems to recheck itself and I am not getting help from Real Player on this problem. What can I do about Rnaapp? It never seems to close. If I just uncheck The Verizon Dialer and sign on each time, would this help or does the a-winpoet-service cause it to remain open? How much memory do you think rnaapp uses? I am pulled down to 38% now. I am wondering what good installing an additional 256 of RAM helped with if anything. Any help will be appreciated. |

Startup
As long as you are connected through your DSL service, rnaapp will be running. If
you disconnect from the DSL connection, rnaapp should close after about ten minutes, assuming that some program isn't trying to connect. You mention memory being "pulled down to 38% now", but I believe what you are looking at is Resources....adding RAM will not affect your resource consumption, as they are two different things. See he About Resources: http://www.aumha.org/a/resource.htm and http://www.onlinehelp.bc.ca/tips.htm#resources Just using Symantec and AOL9 will eat up a lot of the resources. Were it me, I would not use AOLat all. I suggest that you download, unzip, and run Hijack This from one of these locations: http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...HijackThis.exe Unzip to a folder *other than* your Desktop or the Temp folder, double-click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log somewhere you can find it (Desktop, My Documents, or similar). Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet. Copy the log files and paste them into a new post at: http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 In your post, please state your problem clearly and what you've done so far to fix it. The folks there will tell you what to remove. See the "housekeeping" they ask you to complete before you post your log: http://aumha.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4075 A tutorial for using Hijack This is located he http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/ and an in-depth tutorial is he http://aumha.org/a/hjttutor.htm -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Joni" wrote in message ...
