Default How to make mouse scroll wheel work in .hlp files?

I have received .hlp help file with a software. On opening it, the
Help-Version reads, Microsoft Windows Help 4.10.1998, Version.

The problem is that mouse scroll wheel does not work in it in win98se.
I am not aware whether it works or not in other os.

How to make mouse scroll wheel work in .hlp help files for scrolling up
and down?
--------

I have seen help file in some other software in .chm format. Scroll
wheel duly works in these files. On opening, no menu is appearing in
the help. some icons are there. On right click on the upper bar, it
shows option "About HTML help", click which brings the about window
that reads:
HTML Help Control Version 5.2.3664.0

What are the two formats?

----------------
Please suggest some software that will convert a .hlp file to .chm file
so that scroll wheel starts working in it?

Thanks and Regards.

Click once in the pane you want to scroll.

Click or double click an icon to expand the category.

I've seen this before. And no, it acts the same in other Windows =

written for Windows 3.x. Is it true in this case as well?

I've never been able to scroll within help files, no matter what date =
the help file was written. Bloody annoying isn't it? I think I'd be =
able to scroll with this intellimouse if I used programme specific =
options - dunno - I'll have a go. I can scroll within chm files!

You don't mention the InteliPoint mouse you have or the version of software
for it installed. I use an Itelipoint mouse and the help files work with the
scroll as mildly mentioned. Clicking once in the right pane enables the wheel
for scrolling. Truly so far, I have only tried this in Office 2003 on an XP Pro
SP2 machine.

just a curio bill, why do people find it necessary to EXCLAIM things in
loud mode when using an acronym? is it an insecurity trait or just
habit.

I just checked on a dual-boot system (98SE and XP) with the same .hlp files, and
using the standard wheel mouse drivers that are installed by each of those operating
systems.

In XP, the help file will scroll with the wheel or by dragging the scroll bar ("live
scrolling").
In 98SE, the same help file will *not* scroll either way.

Yeah Glee,
My system is 98SE and the not so intellimouse has never scrolled within =
help files. It's microsoft Intellipoint V4.00.0657.0 and I can only =
navigate by the up/down arrows on the right hand side and by clicking =
between them, which is a bit erratic- it's not a big deal though.

You will find that if you used those very same Help files on an XP system, the Help
files *will* scroll. I assume it is a difference in either the XP mouse driver, or
more likely a different setting (Registry?) that allows live scrolling in Help files
in XP.
