ntkern.vxd serious error in USB hub driver - win98FE

I get an exclamation mark near the usb hub driver in the device
manager, and when I try to reinstall the corrupt driver I get a blue
screen. and deleting and reinstalling the driver doesn't help either.
I already tried SFC on ntkern.vxd to both /system and /system/VMM32,
and the required sys files. nothing.

what is the problem?

p.s. the error started a few weeks ago, until then it worked fine.

It is said Device Manager work should be done in Safe Mode. This is
because "ghosts" may show up there. So, in Safe Mode, go back to the
branch you were in, & delete every device in it. Reboot to Normal Mode.
(Personally, I wouldn't do it in just ANY branch.)
