Firewalls
I would like to ask if the Windows XP (home) firewall is sufficient as in
getting the service pack 2 from Microsoft UK there was another disc containing "EZ Armour Firewall". In Windows help F1, it indicates not having two firewalls running. My question then is, will my computer be protected with just the Windows Firewall or do I need the additional software? Regards Colin |

Regards Colin I consider the WinXP SP2 firewall adequate. Many others don't. They generally alledge (falsely) that the Windows firewall does not check outgoing packets and that the one they recommend does. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP, IE/OE Please respond in Newsgroup only. You may also want to purchase a hardware firewall, being a router, if you do
not have one already. This helps disguise your computer ip address from the real world. "Colin Brittain" wrote in message ... Anyway, a hardware firewall is not the same thing as a router. A NAT router does block unsolicited packets, but only as a function of Network Address Translation. A firewall, using SPI filters, does more than just block unsolicited packets. Many low end SOHO routers do include rudimentary SPI filters, though; but I wouldn't call them firewalls. -- Norman ~Win dain a lotica, En vai tu ri, Si lo ta ~Fin dein a loluca, En dragu a sei lain ~Vi fa-ru les shutai am, En riga-lint |
