System Defrag
Hello,
I would appreciate a clarification on the following inquiry: What is the difference, if any, while optimizing the system in this fashion: 1) I usually optimize the Win Me system in Safe Mode thru the Maintenance Wizard. Then do a restart. 2) Today, after doing the above, I clicked on My Computer and optimized C disk. I found out that there were lots of gaps and it took just a long time to optimize drive C. Shouldn't the Maintenance Wizard take care of the defrag? Why does drive C show like nothing has been done when defraging thru "My Computer"? I hope that this query makes sense. I seem to recall that some users prefer to defrag via different utilities, could someone also provide me with a safe link? Thanks in advance, Ed |

This would be one of them, Ed, for 'Diskeeper Lite' (Freeware), you'ld have to scroll down a few items to get the http://labmice.techtarget.com/Utilities/diskmgmt.htm I am using this utility with very good results. Thanks in advance, Ed I use ScanDefrag from: http://home.earthlink.net/~bblanton2...efrag/main.htm I run it a 2AM. It re-boots the computer and then stops everything that's running in the background except for the operating system. It runs quickly because all the other software is not running in competition with it. It takes care of itself while I'm sleeping. What more could you want  Barb |

What more could you want  Not a bad idea, but totally dependent on preference. I have Avast and usually run 'scandisk' before defragging, but then Avast and the firewall must be disabled for that purpose. Before running 'Diskeeper' I can turn them back on, because they are not interfering with it. Having this defrag-utility does interfere with the use of the 'Maintenance Wizard' and for some strange reason I don't have the need to run any one of them in Safe Mode, let's say "so far, so good". Hello:
I have also used ScanDefrag with excellent results, and was going to post a suggestion for it, if Barb hadn't beaten me to it g. O.J.
