Need help fixing the registry
When I start Windows Mellennium and use normal mode I
come to a message that sais 'Windows cannot prosses the registry. This may be fixed by rebooting to the command prompt and running SCANREG /FIX. Otherwise Windows may not have enough memory to load' When I try going through safe mode it sais that there is a problem with the Device IOS and that the system has halted. I have tried to type in every command including: scanreg/fix, scanreg/restore, mem/c, smartdrv, and scandisk (which I used to scan and fix some problems, but still cannot load windows.) This happend right after trying to load some old software and shutting the computer down, so my guess is that it is a virus . If you know a solution !please! let me know. Keep in mind I cannot open windows and none of these commands in the command prompt seem to work. If you know of a specific Anti-Virus program that would work please tell me specifically what it is so that I can use it. I appriciate your time. |

Need help fixing the registry
This assumes that you hadn't picked up a virus - you may need to check using
a DOS virus checker from www.f-prot.com As you can no longer boot into Safe Mode as well as Normal Mode then you are running out of options and are only left with trying to boot using the WinMe Startup (floppy) Disk into Real Mode DOS and see if you can recover from there. Boot using the Windows Startup (floppy) Disk and choose 4) Minimal Boot. At the A:\ prompt, type "scanreg /restore" (no quotes and note the space between the g and /) then press Enter. Follow the screen prompts and when asked, select the last 'good' date before you tried to install your software, when PC ran OK, continuing with the instructions. Don't forget to remove the floppy disk BEFORE you tell the machine to reboot. Hopefully, this method may get your pc running again. Mart "Hunter Brown" wrote in message ...
