HELP........I noticed that my toolbar does not look the same. Instead of
"back" and "forward" it now says "cut" and "paste", I no longer have a
"refresh" tab, the "refresh" icon has been replaced with "encoding" which
does not refresh. Can someone help me to get it back to normal again? Thanks

Toolbar on what, IE? If IE, what version? Did the toolbar look differently
since you had the PC and then it changed? If so, try to recall exactly what
you did immediately prior to the change occurring.

Right click a vacant space on the toolbar
from the menu select [customize]
choose the items and the order you wish them to be in,
The right side window is whats on your toolbar,
the left side window what is available,
select something on the right and you can arrow it left, & vice versa.
The right side pane also has Move Up, Move Down buttons to change the order,
(up moves left, down moves right, on the toolbar)

IE Version 6. This all changed after I restored a backup of my resgistry
from Scanreg.

I tried to go to cusomize, but my choice of icon with text are the same, not
the usual "back" "forward" "refresh" now they are "cut", "paste" and
"encode". I cant refresh unless I go to view and then click on refresh. Any
suggestions?

Right click a blank spot on the toolbar and select customize. You can
remove "cut and paste" from the right hand window and add "back and forward"
from the left window.

snip
In the Customize box you should find a Reset selection, use that to
reset your default values which is probably how 99% or better of us run
IE in the first place? My Customize box has the first e of Reset
underlined which indicates that Alt+E keypress would be the equivelent
of clicking on the Reset choice, you could try that too. eg. Alt+E
keypress when the Customize box has focus.

View, toolbar, customize? right? When I bring up the box, nothing is what it
should be not on the left side or the right side. (ei. the print icon is now
the house, the paste icon is a circle with an "x" in it, the "back" tab is
listed as "cut" with an arrow pointing to the left and the "refresh" tab
which is usually the paper with the encircled arrows is now listed ad
encoding, which I pressed and screwed this up even more. HELP!!!

Right, but for the moment forget about left side or right side items.
Under the question mark and close box 'X' in the upper right hand
corner of the Customize box don't you have a couple of choice boxes to
click on? One named Close and the other Reset - click Reset. You may
need to Reboot to see the old IE toolbar that has gone missing.

You could also reinstall IE 6 by double clicking on C:\Program
Files\Internet Explorer\IE6SETUP.EXE, selecting Custom and manually
checkmarking each item that was previously installed to insure that
your files and registry entries get renewed. You should then visit
WinUP site to refresh your updates too. If ie6setup.exe won't run then
you probably have been hijacked, which might be messing with your
toolbar in the first place, so check for spyware first if other modes
of attack fail.
