how to format then install
I've got win98 and i want to format my hard drive ( delete
everything). Do i 1)start the PC like normal into windows then quit to dos, then type c:\format c:\ 2)or start with a windows start up disk then which goes to the a: drive then type format c:\. or is there a better way to do it? Also, for the start up disk. Do i have to copy my cd-rom drive onto it? cos i created it automatically through windows. |

Restart with the startup disk and at the A prompt type
in format c: Then Put your start up floppy in and turn your pc on, select start with cd-rom support, now at the A prompt look just above it for your cd-rom letter if it was D it will be E. What you need after that will look like this. A:\e: Hit enter E:\setup: Hit enter Now you should be able to just follow the dirrections, sit back and let Windows do the work. Make sure you have your Product Key Code. And add Drivers. -----Original Message----- I've got win98 and i want to format my hard drive ( delete everything). Recommend the following:
Boot from the startup floppy. Using Fdisk, remove the current partition. Using Fdisk, enabling large disk support (Y), create a primary partition. Using Fdisk, make the newly created partition active. Reboot to the startup floppy again. Format the partition. Reboot to the startup floppy again. Select to enable cdrom support. Type in the drive letter of the CDrom, (E:\). Type in setup. Most important part: Have available any drivers the Win98 CD does not contain for your PC. Above is assuming you have one hard drive with one partition, and one CD reading device that can be utilized from the startup diskette. "Joey" wrote in message ...
