Default finding a windows version number

I've got a sony mini-disk player that uses dxdiag to check
for my system software version which states
'Microsoft Windows 98 (4.10,build 2222)' We know that
this is second edition but sony support says that isn't
good enough and that I should contact microsoft. What do
you think? Is there a registry setting or something else
this isn't quite right on my system. I've got eMonster
550r.

I need to know what version of Windows 98 I'm running.
I've forgotten how to retrieve this info from the

system.
Can anyone refresh my memory?

Hold down the Windows key and press the R key

Type DXDIAG and hit Enter

Build 1998 is Windows 98 Original
Build 2222 is Windows 98 Second Edition

Could it be that you need a new version of DirectX?
