Device Manager and MSN/Internet Explorer
I have a strange thing started happening recently. When I
go into My Computer/Properties, when I click (and only when I click) Device Manager, MSN 8 tries to launch. What is the connection between Device Manager and MSN? Or is it IE6 trying to launch MSN 8? Is this an indicator of cross-linked files? By the way, I can't get scandisk to complete. It comes back after ten tries with a message yhat some software is trying to write to the drive. I have run Ad-Aware and SpyBot. |

Device Manager and MSN/Internet Explorer
The internet setting "check for publisher's certificate revocation", if =
checked in Internet Options, may cause this connection attempt. Right=20= click the IE desktop icon and select properties. Then go to last tab,=20= Advanced, on the dialogue that pops up. Then scroll down to the Security= =20 section. The first item, if it is checked, may be causing this connectio= n=20 attempt. There is no real problem, if you're aware this is causing the=20= connection. But you could always uncheck it, if you don't want the=20 connection attempt. You can always run scandisk from Safe Mode. I like Scandefrag, a program= =20 from some smart people who've been known around these newsgroups. You ru= n=20 it from Windows and it will prompt to reboot and then run Scandisk and/o= r=20 Disk Defragmenter from before even the Windows Desktop is loaded. This I= =20 like because no boot to Safe Mode, then reboot again to Normal. It does = require a reboot, but only one, and scandisk and defragmenter will=20 probably run fine in this early Windows environment. http://www.blueorbsoft.com/scandefrag/index.html Original Message On 07/20/2004, 6:22:39 PM, "Dave" = wrote regarding Device Manager and MSN/Internet Explorer: I have a strange thing started happening recently.
