Windows ME and failure to install IE 6 SP1--Please Help!
I have read most of the submissions and replies on this problem, and have
done just about everything suggested in the Win ME forum, as well as in Win Updates forum, such as: Redownload IE 6 SP1 files Attempt to reinstall SP1 without Norton Antivirus (Systemworks 2003) and Zone Alarm (v. 5.1.033.000) Try to install in the various ways possible: new installation (basic vs complete) and continuing a failed installation... And always the same result: IE 6 SP1 does not install and states a reboot is required for a previous installation to complete. The loop then continues. I am currently running Win ME with IE v. 5.50. The same installation in my other PC, with Win XP, did not run into any difficulties. I use this PC for basic office documents (MS Office Pro 2000), so no other software is installed. I connect to the Internet via a two-PC network with my Win XP PC. Has anyone found out what to do? Does this mean that ME is incompatible with IE 6 SP1, and that I am forced to upgrade? I have further read that getting the CD-ROM with the upgrade does not do the trck, either. Please help! |

It was an ordeal but the good forum people helped me solve this problem. See the discussion thread at: http://communities2.microsoft.com/co...9-7d245d05d755 It can be fixed, believe it or not! For the "unable to install all components" issue with IE6SP1 in WinME, try
this: Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View: - Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK Create a folder named "Old uninstall". Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information. Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files. Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files. You will now be able to install all the troublesome components. If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder and the files you moved. Good luck, Zee "wonderwomanuk" wrote in message ... i am also having the same problems............please can anyone help. ta very much "Elaina" wrote: I am having the same problem with my IE also..
