Default "Cannot create or replace : the network is busy"

After two days of hair-tearing-out and general
frustration I have finally got my ME laptop and XP
desktop connected (yay!). But transfer of files is
erratic. Some have gone across OK, but most are not
copying over when I put them in a shared folder - I get
long pause, then "Cannot create or replace filename:
The network is busy" Seems worse on larger files, but
we're really not talking *very* large files here..

I've tried googling and searching through other websites
and this doesn't seem to have come up elsewhere.

Any ideas?
