Do you mean SR didn't restore your icons or just doesn't work at all?

Error reports? Other symptoms? Checked your AV software? etc..

FWIW - A copy of 'Show Desktop' should be in your windows\system folder.
However, you may need to paste a copy into the:-
Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch folder
where you should also find the other Quick Launch components.

Tommy,

It is quite possible that the icon cache has become corrupted.

The Win Me icon cache is the file ShellIconCache (no extension) in your
windows folder. You can safely delete this file and reboot and it will be
rebuilt. I would also suggest that you increase the number of icons that
can be cached. The easiest way to do this is to download the registry
patch IconCacheFix from http://www.aumha.org/reg1.htm and merge it with
your registry.

Note that system restore doesn't back up or restore the icon cache.

Cheers Mike, that was going to be my next suggestion - all standard stuff

Just a little concerned why 'Show Desktop' vanished too - coincidence?

Either coincidence Mart or a question of not realising it was missing
until all the icons went wrong and Tommy started to look for what else
might have gone wrong. Unlike the ShellIconCache the contents of the
QuickLaunch folder should be monitored by SR so if a restore didn't
restore the shortcut then this suggests it might have been missing for
some time.

Cheers,

Tommy,

To see the file ShellIconCache (it has no extension) in Windows Explorer
you first have to enable the viewing of hidden system files and folders.
Do this as follows:
Tools | Folder Options | View and check "Show hidden files and folders"
and perhaps also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files", and then
click Apply and OK.
