Default Problems with USB Optical Mouse

I've tried asking Microsoft, but for some bizzar reason the PID# was
rejected... anyway

I've been having problems with my mouse for a while now and I need to see if
anyone has an idea what could be the root of the problems.

Very often, while using the mouse, it will stop responding and a few seconds
later windows will pop up with the "New device located" wizard. Then no
matter weather I continue with the hardware detection or not, the mouse won't
work and I have to switch back to the trackball mouse on my desktop unless I
unplug and reconnect the USB mouse back into the port.

I've also tried using the serial bus, but the same problem occurred just as
frequent. And updating my IntelliMouse software doesn't help either. I'm
clueless as to what the problem could be.
