Internet access problem
I have installed McAfee Firewall on my comp. (Compaq, 800Mhz)Since I can't
access internet - I.Explorer 6.0 says page can't be displayed. I have contacted Comcast support - they concluded that was the Windows socket problem. I have one more computer that was connected to internet thru this one - the second computer has access to internet. I am currious is it any other way of fixing this problem intead of reinstaling windows. Thank you |

Were you able to connect before installing the firewall? If so you need =
to check what the firewall is blocking. If you have "Microsoft Generic = Host Process for Win32 Services" blocked, you need to allow it access or = you can not access the internet. Seeing that your ISP is Comcast, I will take it that you use cable. If = this is the case, do not run the W2kfix as it deals with dialup. --=20 Brian A. Conflicts start where information lacks. http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm Thank on your help Yes everything was working almost perfectly; old McAfee Virus scan, old mcAfee Firewall. I am still fighting to fix my comp. Right now I have access to Internet but only after uninstalling the Firewall. I had no better idea, so I had run W2kfix - didn't make anything worse than use to be. I have contacted McAfee support - didn't help to much other to make me clear that I have to uninstall their software as a first step. Noe I am unable to run some programs or some of programs are not working as they use to. My question this time is: Is it there any way ti clean up registry or at least to disable entries for programs that I have removed from my comp. long ago? Thank you all |

Noe I am unable to = run some=20 programs or some of programs are not working as they use to. Have you run a full system av scan with fully updated definitions? Have you checked your system for adware/spyware and removed any if = found? **It is very important to run the update for each program before running = to be sure you have the latest definitions.** Run the programs in Safe = Mode after assuring you have shut down all running tasks except explorer = or systray. Read the quick start here on how to create = a log file that can be copied/pasted into a forum that can provide = assistance on removal of unwanted pests. http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/#quick Then post the logs to an appropriate forum where they specialize in = spyware/hijacker removal.
