1. Make sure your hardware and applications can handle Windows XP.

I'd advise about a 1ghz machine or greater and 512 megs of RAM. Though XP will run on quite a bit less...it will be slow. Anyway, my personal recommendation would be to backup your data and perform a clean install... or else install XP fresh on a 2nd partition and dual boot
