UPDATE: Most Common Problem With Floppy Disk Drives
Hi,
One problem floppy drive in a laptop, I hear a "wine" noise (belt slip) during an attempt to read a floppy. I removed the floppy drive and checked it. I removed the belt and cleaned it with a rubber cleaner/revitalizer. Afterwards, no more "wine" noise and the floppy drive can read/write now. I would like to buy a new belt, but this belt is very small in thickness (can't use any other type of belt), and I doubt I can find a source that sells them. The belt may be interchangeable with the ones used to repair and maintain
video cassette recorders. You might try to find a company that will send you a free catalog or belt measuring device. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...r+&btnG=Search Ben "Brad" wrote in message ... UPDATE: Most Common Problem With Floppy Disk Drives
The same method used to "restore" the drive wheels on the old record
players will likely work here. The wheel was "roughed up" a bit and a coating material was applied that restored the "sticky" nature of the wheel so it would not slip. An old audio shop may have some laying around. James Ben Myers wrote: The belt may be interchangeable with the ones used to repair and maintain video cassette recorders.
