Question about Dial Up Networking
Hello Folks,
I have somewhat of an interesting question here, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a student in college. I am wondering if it would be possible to set up a Dial Up Server on a computer here at home (running Windows ME) so that I could dial in to access the internet. This would be only be for "emergency access" since normally I can access the internet through the campus network. However this network is frequently out of service for various problems. Thus it would be great if I could just dial home to gain internet access, despite the extremely low bandwidth I would have. At home internet access is obtained via a "cable modem" connected to your typical home router. The remote machine is running Windows XP Pro. If this can be accomplished without buying 3rd party software please let me know. My suspicions however fear that this may not be possible. What exactly is possible with Dial Up Networking? Will I just gain access to shared resources on the computer I dial in to? Will I have access to other resources on the LAN that the dial up server is on? Will internet access through the LAN be available to computers that dial in? Thanks much for any help provided!! Greg |
