Hello,
I just upgraded from version 1.4 to 1.5
Problem(s):
1) It takes about 2 minutes to get the Spybot screen loaded before it shows
on the computer screen.
2) I honestly don't know what settings I should have on/off.
3) Thinking of uninstalling version 1.5 & going back to version 1.4.

Any ideas as of why the new version is such a hog on computer resources? Way
too slow to load.
Also, what's the best way to go back to the older version - without
affecting any files that might be left over throughout the system/registry.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed.....

After reading thru the link Zee gave, I would suggest you uninstall the
new version and go back to the old one. I assume you have a copy of an
unopened version 1.4. If not, go to oldversion.com and get one.

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=spybot

If you prefer to wait until one of the gurus from over the Pond arises
and has a jolt or two of caffeine, OK. Otherwise, I would say go to
Control Panel and Add/Remove and take it out of there.

I always go thru my registry and also my hard drive (via Windows
Explorer) and remove any blatant leftovers of whatever it is I am
removing.......but I do it ever so carefully. In fact I don't mess with
most of it.

Thank you for the info Zee. It's good to know that there are *gurus* in
this NG who know the answers. I appreciate it.
Hi Heather! Apparently there is a patch on the way for version 1.5, so I
will wait a week or so. Otherwise, I will follow your advice.

*Note that there is another issue* with Spybot 1.5 - This has something to
do with the immunization process. I noticed that NOT ALL THE FILES are
protected. This wasn't so with 1.4
Thanks again,
Ed

Ed,

Thank you for your comments.

Added info: I am running the Beta test version for this issue:
http://www.safer-networking.org/file...8-79-84-85.zip

Without any issues. Problem solved.

In case you want to try it.

Zee:
I know this wasn't addressed to me, but it concerns me as well and I took
the freedom to try it for myself. What specifically are the improvements to
be expected from the 'fix'?
I didn't detect any better loading speed than 2 min. and everything else was
the same as before in ver. 1.5, including immunizations. Personally I am
looking forward to seeing the loading speed reduced to at least 0.5 min.
Thanks for the link.

Harry.

Harry, and others,

In my case that fix was enough to reduce the start delay to a few seconds
compared to over 1 minute.

Your options:

a) Revert to previous version of Spybot S&D (specially if running Win9x
systems);
b) Wait for an update with all fixes;
c) Go through some beta testing:
http://forums.spybot.info/project.php?issueid=76

It seems this new version was 1 step forward and 2 backwards.
