Default download problems

When I download a file from the internet to my Downloads folder, it
downloads but the icon next to the new addition is incorrect. When I check
in properties the designation is correct(,exe, .zip etc). When I click on
the file to open it a dialogue box tells me that there is no such file.
I recently replaced my motherboard to an Asus A7N8X. There is a small
chance that the problem started prior to the changeover.
I don't even know where to begin. Could this be a virus? Can I just
remove the offending program or will this present a problem for some with
the wrong file designation? Before I changed the board, some of the files
may
have changed on their own? Could this me someone "punishing" me for having
Serialz 2000, which is the file that the icons are changing to, and
obviously corrupting the new download?

Please help. TIA,

Dexter

Dexter,

With Windows Explorer go to View Folder Options File Types and
remove the EXE, ZIP etc associations with Serialz 2000. After that,
If needed, and if you have TweakUI, then under the Repair tab repair
associations.

TweakUI 1.33:
