Default Kingston USB SD Card Reader

I have a Gateway Pentium P2 computer with 98SE. I installed a Kingston SD
Card reader and plugged it into my 4-way USB hub. The card reader worked a
few times, then stopped working. Windows no longer recognized the G & H
drives designated to the card reader. My Epson Stylus C84 printer (also
plugged into the 4-way USB hub) stopped working as well. The error message
said the printer wasn't plugged into a valid port.

The next day Windows announced that it had detected and repaired a Registry
error. My printer worked again, the Kingston card reader software
reinstalled itself, and the G & H drives reappeared in "My Computer".

The next time I tried to use the card reader the problem repeated itself.
The card reader wouldn't work, the G & H drives disappeared from "My
Computer", and my printer again doesn't work ("not plugged into a valid
port").

Is this problem caused by the Registry, the card reader, or the USB hub?

If the hub is not self-powered (comes with its own wall plug) you are
probably overloading the USB ports on your PC and will need to get a powered
hub.
