Default I cant play audio CD's!

I am using Win 98 B on a Compaq Armada 1700 laptop. I dont regularly
use my computer to play audio CD's, and if I do use my computer for
audio, its usually to export a CD track to a Mp3 file and play that way.
Back in July I installed the latest version of Quicktime for Windows 98
at that time. Quicktime took over all my audio files that normally
played with Windows Media Player 7 (sorry last version that is
compatible with the Windows CE HPC2000 OS, so I cant upgrade).

Well just today I inserted many audio discs in my computer and
discovered that they would not play. The CD basicially did nothing, and
when I opened up Windows Media Player 7, the program crashed. Or when I
opened up the CD Player app in the accessories/multimedia menu it was
unable to play the CD. I received no error message, just a drive in use
message. This is not a hardware problem, as regular CD-Roms work just
fine.

This is not a CD problem as CD's plays just fine in my stereo

Thanks for some assistance.

Sounds like QuickTime (QT) has associated itself either
properly (to it) or improperly (to it) at any rate I would
check in QTs options to see if there is a way to remove it's
audio/CD association. If you can't find any, then:

1) Start Settings Folder Options File types (tab)
2) Scroll down till you find Audio CD.
3) Highlight Audio CD
4) Select Edit
5) Highlight play
6) Select Edit
7) The path show show something like:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINAMP\WINAMP.EXE"

NOTE: I use Winamp v.2.90 and have no idea what the path is
on your comp to Windows Media Player 7.

8) If there is no path, or it is not to the correct
application, then browse to the proggie you want to have
play/associate with audio CDs.
9) OK on out.

You may have to reboot.

If that doesn't work, or if you want to try TweakUI before
doing all that, then start TweakUIRepair tabRepair
associations from the drop down.

You may have to reboot.

If you don't have TweakUI:

Read about it:

http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstati.../NTTweakUI.asp

or if the above breaks up and is unclickable

http://tinyurl.com/i4p

Download it:

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...US/Tweakui.exe
