Default Windows 98 to Windows Me

I have windows 98 from 3 computers ago and through the
learning curve have pretty well got it screwed up. I don't
even have the disk anymore. I bought Windows ME full
edition and was told by a friend I would have to uninstall
98 first and then reinstall Me. I have all my files backed
up but how do I uninstall 98? I found a link but it said
you had to meet the folowing criteria( fat32, etc ) and it
means nothing to me. Help?

What does the ME installation disk say about doing an installation, and what
happens when you try?

Generally, you do not have to uninstall 98, but you might not be able to a
an upgrade. In your case an upgrade isn't really an option, since upgrading
a screwed up 98 system will almost certainly mean a screwed up ME system

When you have ME questions, you should be asking in an ME newsgroup so you
are communicating with experts who use that system. Since ME happens to
install like W98 does, you can use the instructions he

I concur with Jeff--do not attempt an upgrade even if your disk allows you
to. Back up any file that you need and then format the drive.

If if you could upgrade, I would not suggest this to my worst enemy. Do a
clean install. Win98 to ME upgrades are notorious for botched and failed
installs.
