Zone Alarm not installing?
Hi all,
I downloaded the latest free ZoneAlarm onto a W98SE machine. When I run the installer, I get the error message that validation failed for C:\windows\temp\vsinit.dll and another message about c:\windows\temp\glb40b2.tmp file. There is also something about a root certificate. So my questions a whats wrong how do I fix it? thanks, charles..... |

Zone Alarm not installing?
I found the info below a few months ago, when searching the same error. I don't
have a link from where I found it, but it apparently came from Zone Alarm support originally. I may have found it through a post by Don Hoover from http://www.donhoover.net/ paste SUMMARY I'm getting a validation failed message with vsinit.dll SOLUTION In order to protect our software client from being tampered with, we sign our dll's. Every time a dll is loaded, we check if it has our certificate. In order to do certificate checking, the machine needs to have a root certificate on it. If the root certificate in missing, we can't validate the dll and the client will not start. We have determined that on systems with a validation error the root certificates were missing. The Zone Labs client has 100% nothing to do with any kind of certificate removals and we can only assume that something malicious has removed them from effected machines. The following 4 STEPS will fix your system if followed very closely. STEP1: UNINSTALL ZONEALARM Please follow the steps below to manually uninstall ZoneAlarm from your system. Please make sure to follow the steps for whichever operating system you may have. After ZoneAlarm is uninstalled, please make sure you have all of the Windows Updates installed and run a complete virus scan on your system to make sure there is not a virus on the system. You can run a free virus scan from the link below. http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx Thank you for choosing Zone Labs, ============== Windows 2000/XP ============== 01.) Zone Alarm not installing?
Ran into similar problem yesterday a.m.
From my notes: After installing IE6.0 (setup on hard disk), upon reboot, validation failed for "C:\windows\system\vsinit.dll. When initiating the install, Dialup already setup, and IE setup dialed out when initiating upgrade (all the files needed were already on the hard drive). Solution: Don't setup dialup or install ZA Pro. Install IE 6.0 ***FIRST***. After restoring the new 98SE image over that partition, the solution worked fine. How to get the IE6.0 setup files on the PC is another problem, which I didn't have. But, if someones done the online update download for IE6.0, they're on the PC. I forgot where though. File to search for is ie6setup.exe, all the needed files should be in the same folder. Just don't add any option(s) during the install. -- Jonny "glee" wrote in message ...
