Till when is support for Win98 continues?
And.. when support for win98 ends - does that automatically mean that support for win98 applications by MS and third party also ends?
Thanks. |

From http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];LifeAn1 Paid incident support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) is available through June 30, 2006. Critical security updates will be provided on the Windows Update site through June 30, 2006. Customers may request non-critical security fixes for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, and the most current version of their components until June 30, 2006 through typical assisted-support channels. Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me downloads for existing security issues will continue to be available through regular assisted-support channels at no charge until June 30, 2006. No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition ended on June 30, 2003. No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support for Windows Me ended on December 31, 2003. Online self-help support will be available until at least June 30, 2007. As for applications, support for these depends on the specific application involved. There are few, if any, applications that are Windows 98 specific and most (but not quite all) applications from 1998 and later that work with Windows 98 will also work with Windows XP. Hope this clarifies the situation. Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C. Canada -- Microsoft MVP (1997 - 2006) On-Line Help Computer Service http://onlinehelp.bc.ca |

30 Jun-06.
See http://support.microsoft.com/default...ifeWinExtndFAQ and/or http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=LifeAn1. Microsoft's decision to extend Win9x support for 2 more years was almost exclusively due to the lobbying/clamoring of Your Neighborhood Windows MVPs. w -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) Michael wrote: And.. when support for win98 ends - does that automatically mean that support for win98 applications by MS and third party also ends? Most third-party application providers have already dropped Windows 98
support. I can't think of a one at work that we use that still provides support if you're using Windows 98. -- Richard G.
