need help with problems, (from:TO glee, FROM daddyzaring's POST!)
I am reposting the problems I am having, just in case it was getting missed in other post. Please also see "TO glee, FROM daddyzaring's POST!" post to see previous progress.
I am using, a HP Pavilion 6573Z, P3, 500mhz, 256mb RAM, total of 80G HDs capacity, with Windows 98SE, The problems I am experiencing, when I left click on most of the shortcuts in my startmenu I get an error message: NAME OF SHORTCUT The object that 'C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\Programs name.ink' refers to has been moved or is inaccessible. I have to right click, and select open to get anything to work(start menu, or desk top). Most of my start menu icons are the blank default windows icon. When trying to access my control panel (left clicking) it tells me, "Access to the specific device, path or file is denied. Also when I try to click on links in my emails (MS Outlook) it gives me a Locate Link Browser. Also, my recycle bin is missing off of my desktop. Also, when I look in windows explorer the recycle bin icon is a folder icon, and it's faded looking. |

Ding! Round 3!
----- your "Locate Link Browser" issue: What web browser do you use for the Internet? Internet Explorer? Mozilla? Firefox? Netscape? Opera? Do you have, or have you ever had, any web browsers installed besides Internet Explorer? When you click the link in Outlook, besides the Locate Link Browser box appearing, does the link open a web page in a browser? If so, what browser? Have you tried using the Locate Link Browser to point it to your default browser? ----- your shortcut problem: You stated that *most startmenu shortcuts* give you a message, but then in your sample message you describe a desktop shortcut: "'C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\Programs name.ink'" (sic) (That is actually .lnk, not .ink ....it stands for "link") Is it desktop shortcuts or start menu shortcuts or both? Is it ALL of them or just some of them? Which programs are they for? Right-click one of the non-working shortcuts that give you the error, then click Properties on the menu that appears. Note (write down) the path listed on the Shortcut tab in the "Target:" box. Then, click the "Find Target" button....what happens when you do that? Does it find the target file and display it in a folder window? If not, open Windows Explorer, navigate to the path you wrote down from the Target box, and see if the file listed (or even the folder) still exists. Post back with your results, and with answers to all the questions I asked in this post. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "DaddyZaring" wrote in message ... Try extracting a fresh copy of "C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE". This is
an important system file and is used in the Internet Explorer repair process as well as opening Control Panel applets. To do this, insert your Windows 98 CD, then open a DOS box and type the following command line. You may have to replace "D:\" with the drive letter used by your CD drive. extract /a /y /L C:\Windows D:\win98\base4.cab RUNDLL32.EXE Ben "DaddyZaring" wrote in message ... It doesn't give an internet explorer selection to expand, and trying to view
anything on there freezes up my computer. How exactly do you mean confirm. I did confirm it when I extracted it. Now should I have deleted the old copy first instead of overwriting it? too. I don't have my printer hooked up right now. It ran out of ink a few weeks ago, so I just put it away until I can buy a new one.
