system restore
any ideas why system-restore shuts itself off?
ie: the box is checked in troubleshooting tab I had second-chance installed but it stopped working so i decided to uninstall it and when i checked the System-restore function it was not working! All restore points lost!!!! Would the two programes be connected via the space allocated to both? thanks to all grayman |

I'm not saying that this is your case, but I saw that happen due to the
Netsky virus. Having lost all your restore points is not such a great loss unless you knew exactly when your system was working correctly... if this is the only glitch, soon after it is corrected another restore point will be created. Basically, just pray that you don't NEED it before then. Besides, System-Restore points in Me (not the case in XP) can really eat a HD up, along with the _Restore\Temp folder... just got rid of 2.2Gb worth of both, and not the only PC where I've seen this behavior. There are a number of possible reasons for this - the most common are
1) you have disabled the '*statemgr' entry in MSCONFIG 2) you have less than 400MB freespace on the C: drive 3) you have GoBack installed (not sure about 'secondchance', but it may automatically disable System restore for a number of good reasons) Check the above in that order, then post back with your findings -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "grayman" wrote in message ... any ideas why system-restore shuts itself off? ie: the box is checked in troubleshooting tab I had second-chance installed but it stopped working so i decided to uninstall it and when i checked the System-restore function it was not working! I reduced the amount of space it uses in the hope that this
solves the problem and i will never use Second-chance again in case it is causing the fault!!!! thanks Grayman -----Original Message----- I'm not saying that this is your case, but I saw that happen due to the Netsky virus. Demetri
if you want to delete the restore points, this begs the question of 'Why??' - they may be the only thing between you and a total reinstall of the OS! post back with your reasoning, and someone will respond with either a better suggestion, or the instructions. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Demetri Dempsey" wrote in message ... I do not think I should have to explain myself for my reasons. I simply want an answer to a question. If you do not want to help without prying into my business, so be it.

I found the information I wanted. I should have done the research prior to asking. My mistake.
