HP Office Jet 725
I have owned the above all-in one HP Printer/Fax/Copier for some years.
Approximately two years ago I was unable to connect the device to my computer with constant errors (disconnected). Finally after installing a new printer port (ST LabPCI 2P EPP) and having the installation disk installed, I was receiving some communication between the computer and device. After adjusting the printer ranges in the device file, I had full communication and no problems. Unfortunately in recent weeks my computer crashed and I lost the previous. Trying again, I am unable to load and run the CD which came with the printer port. This of course will not allow me to do any adjustments as before. I might add, that I have connected the printer to friends computers, run the cd (i.e. the HP CD) and all runs ok. No adjustments are required. Your assistance would be appreciated |

Is this the device?
http://www.st-lab.com/PT9715_2P.html You need to identify the installation utility for the parallel printer port on the ST Labs installation CD and use it to install the parallel port (presumably, LPT2). You can then check the installation of the port in Device Manager (Start / Settings / Control Panel / System / Device Manager / Ports) As far as I can tell, the device is a NM97xx or NM98xx, but the installation utility might cover both devices. You haven't described the problem you are having in loading or running the CD, but the typical procedure is to open the CD from My computer, navigate to the correct folder for the device, then double-click the setup utility. If the problem is that the CD is damaged or the utility won't run, a new copy of the installation program can be downloaded from the Download page at the above site. Once the port is installed (ie, LPT2 is identified in Device Manager as operating properly) you can connect the printer and run the printer installation utility, with the adjustments that it requires. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Bruce Bain" wrote in message ... Thanks for your reply. From the information I have, I have loaded the disk
Went to Drv_cd_v25(E then pci_io then nm98xx_97xx then win98. At this point not sure, cannot get any icon to install. Also downloaded from STLab site. No luck. Your procedure with the CD sounds correct to me.
AFAICT there should be a file in the Win98 folder of the nm98xx_97xx directory called Windows-98 Driver Installation which contains the installation instructions. You will be able to view it if you have Acrobat reader installed. If Acrobat reader is not installed then you may be able to install it from the CD - those generic installation CDs often include Acrobat reader as part of the CD. Roughly, the installation procedure is to go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add New Hardware and go through the searching process. If you get the option, tell Windows to search in the folder on the CD you have identified. Windows should find the new device and the correct drivers for it. Otherwise, if Windows finds a device to install but can't identify the driver, select the Have Disk option and direct the installer to that folder (nm98xx_97xx\Win98) on the CD. Select the device from the list (that's where you might need to know the exact model number). If Windows doesn't detect a new device choose to select from the list, choose Ports, and continue until you get the Have Disk option, and proceed as above. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "Bruce Harvey" wrote in message ...
