missing cd/dvd drive
HALP
i have installed win98sE dozens of times........and on the more recent comps and mobos have had no trouble with Win98 finding the D:CD/DVD drive. This time, once done installing, no D: drive. It shows up in the BIOS, and I use a boot floppy that gives me the R: drive/CD-DVD but when i'm done with the install, nothing. Anybody else have this problem. I don't think it's a hardware problem , but in case, the mobo is a K* PCCHIPS with a AMD mobile Athalon. foggie |

Start regedit on the affected computer, expand and highlight the following key and look in the right window for "NOIDE". If you find it delete it, then restart the computer. I've had that happen to me on a few rare occasions... solved it by simply installing the dos drivers from the floppy that came with the CDrom foggie |

If, as you say, the NOIDE flag is not set, then the thing to do is to boot
into Safe Mode, go into Device Manager, then remove ALL drives, ALL controllers, and the System device called PCI Bus. Then restart and let Windows reinstall all. -- Gary S. You're not supposed to look for a key named NOIDE, your supposed to look for a value named NOIDE. Values are what is shown in the right-hand pane of the Registry Editor. Select the IOS key in the left-hand pane, and you will see the Values in that Key in the right-hand pane. Look for a Value named NOIDE...if it exists, delete it. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ AumHa VSOP: http://aumha.net DTS-L.ORG: http://66.39.69.143/ |
