Default Internet connection sharing

I can't seem to get ICS working on my "network".

Someone told me that I can't use ICS with crossover cable. Is this true?
Do I need to waste ~$30 at my local hardware store to buy a router and
ethernet cable so I can use ICS?

If not, then what am I doing wrong? Can someone point me to a step-by-step
thing so I can configure my DNS's and stuff?

No it's not. Go to http://www.wown.com for how to set it up.

Default Let me be more specific...

Well, wown.com confused me more...

I forgot to mention that this is a peer-to-peer network (no server)
between two computers. One computer uses Win98 SE, and the other uses
WinXP Pro. I think this makes it somewhat a different story?

A crossover cable should work fine. In theory, some network cards
might not work that way. In practice, I've never seen a problem in
several years of using crossover cables with many different network
cards.

Let me add... common practice when interconnecting 2 "like" devices, such as
2 NICs, 2 switches, 2 hubs, etc, is to use a crossover cable. Many devices
can auto-adjust the port between straight and x-over, and some devices have
a toggle switch. However, I like to leave the ports in standard mode and
use well-marked (I like red) crossover cables for this purpose.
