OK, that was what the 'References' thing contained.

So I had to copy and paste what I had typed out here into a new container
(replying to a previous post of mine, but where I removed all the old
text).
WTF??

More below - finally!

When you install something big (or even a normal program), a new restore
point is *automatically created* - in case you should want to reverse or
undo what the new program installation did to your system. Which is a
nice feature of System Restore. :-)

I don't like to use System Restore at all for a number of reasons -
actually first thing upon installation I did was to shut the dang thing
off
(among a hundred other things). I strictly use Imaging instead which imho
is by far better.

And it is, of course. But it's easier and much quicker to use System
Restore (or even ERUNT) for less intrusive changes (even more so for
ERUNT).

I see it as having, and conveniently using the right tool for the right
job;
why use a sledge hammer to pound a nail? :-)

Anyway, you guys are still keeping this thread alive? ! ..what in
heavens
are you both talking about - there's no way I can read through these
threads to figure it out - but I think yous must be just coffee visiting
here every day is all.

Rick

Hey Rick, it's just some of us old timer's, old school values of patience
and perseverance.... :-)

(I know, I know, it seems that all went out with FDR, but, some of us are
still trying to keep it alive). :-)

You seem to be suggesting it relates to the length of the post, but I don't
think that's it.
I think I even tried shortening the message a bit and that didn't do
anything.
I have no idea about this 'References' field thing, though, and why it looks
like that, or even what it is. But I'm not so sure it simply relates to
the length of the message. I think there is more to it than that.

I may have been unclear I guess, but I always meant to say the NUMBER of
posts at a single thread segment was what does it. Each succeeding post
adds to that References field, I'm sure. Then, you have to move up in
the thread to solve it, as you know. You can stay in the same segment,
but must move up.

What does that mean? Does that mean you have to respond to an earlier
post in the same thread? I guess that's what you mean. And that
responding to any later posts will start the problem up again? But the
whole thing seems so stupid!!

Yes. Instead of replying to the one that caused the problem, go up TWO
in the same string. No need to go a different string in the same thread
or higher than two. Going up two, the other guy can respond to your
response, before you need to move it up again. HOWEVER, because of the
confusion in following the thread-- it possibly is best to run out of
conversation before that point is reached!

There has to be a limit to all things. That References field can't grow
forever.
