If the drive was created with a file system that Windows doesn't understand,
such as NTFS, then Windows will not see it and will not be able to use it. Since it was installed in an XP system, this is likely. Also, it is possible that the drive will be configured differently by the BIOS when it is installed in the different machine, so even if it had a file system that Windows can use, it still wouldn't be recognised. I would recommend installing it back into the XP machine, and connecting the two PCs in a network. If the W98 machine can see the XP machine then it can be configured to access the files on the disk regardless of the file system it uses. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "hamma" wrote in message ... im a dj an im trying to put an 80 gig hard drive into my wins98 that already has 2x20 gig hdd,the drive 80 gig has music file already on it but the drive cames from my other computer that has xp an its in the computer now but doesn't see the drive please help me |

You can convert the file system from NTFS to FAT32 with some utility like
partition magic or partition commander, or other such utilities. You could also install in your Win98 machine something like NTFSfor Windows98. This lets you read and write to the NTFS drive without changing its file structure from Windows 98. There are some other free ones out there that just let you read it, without changing the contents, too.
