Protection Error after download recent security patches

I have not been able to boot my ME OS after downloading
recent security patches from Microsoft.

A Windows Protection Error Message pops-up. At best I can
get it to the Safe Mode, and from there get it the rest of
the way.

Did not occur until after the download.
