Default Explorer and Outlook 6 Problems

Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 Professional Problem but cant find a 2000 Discussion
Group - is 2000 the same/similar to ME? Apologies if not.

The problem I am having is two part.

1. The Windows Explorer "all folders" pane is completely grey - no file
hierarchy shown (I am planning to try the suggestion at the bottom of this
page but am not at the computer at the moment.

2. Outlook Express 6 works absolutely normally except sometimes when you
start it only the headers of messages can be viewed, the message text cannot
be viewed either in the preview pane or by double clicking on the message. I
have tried all the fixes I can find online, eg attempting to delete registry
keys (which werent there) but the problem persists... any ideas.

Thanks

Paul

An alternative repair method to that suggested by Noel is to re-register
the file shdocvw.dll. Do this by
typing the following command in the Run box (Start | Run)
REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW.DLL
and then click OK.

I dont know what happened, but all of a sudden the "All Folders"
toolbar (left pane in Windows explorer) has gone missing!!

The shortcut is there but it does nothing.
I can still access Search, History and Favorites but Folders will not
open, it either remains at what I selected earlier (history, search,
etc) or the left pane just becomes a grey screen.
Same situation when using Internet explorer.

I can still use "File manager" however this is very inconvenient.

I dont know what the problem is, Ive been searching the web and the
Windows CD to no luck.

Please Help!!!!!

Default Explorer and Outlook 6 Problems

microsoft.public.win2000.general

This should work, regardless of the OS...
Repair IE (yes, I do mean IE!!)
Reboot to Safe Mode
Go to Add/Remove Programs and try a repair of Internet Explorer from there.
Go to the entry for 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools'
in Add/Remove Programs
Click on Remove - and click on Repair on the window that pops up
Reboot on request to Normal Mode

If the above entry isn't there, you first need to uninstall all the patches
applied, then do the repair, then reapply the patches
The patches are listed in Add/Remove under the names 'Internet Explorer
Qxxxxxx'
highlight, click Remove - reboot if requested.
Repeat until the MSIE6SP1 entry appears - then repair as above.
