Default Dx9 redist for ME

Hi,

I'm sure I typed DX9.0c rather than the 9.0x that appeared. g

As for having to set up ICS on the VM host to allow the VM to access the
internet is something I hadn't thought about being as I am spoilt by using
a router to connect where all that is required is for the VM to share the
host's NIC. Much easier all round. When you're next in funds you might
want to think about getting yourself a router such as I think is sold by 3
that takes a dongle.

yes, Mike
My VM here is 9.0b - v4.09.000.0902
I haven't got around to enabling ICS on the dongle yet, so my ME VM
won't do updates (not that it matters too much) - or I've forgotten
how to set up networking in the VM (which is all too possible!)
glad to see that MS is keeping the v4 updates going, though1

Now I'm confused! - not only does the Dec2006 update install OK - the Feb
2007 on (8MB smaller) installs over the top of that!
Hmmm - checking dxdiag (which I should have done before!), the latest files
there are still only from July 2004, so it looks as if later versions pretty
much do a dummy install of the files
Ah well - at least I have the latest ones in there now

Hmmm - June 2006 will install with OR without .Net installed (over Dx9b -
it requires a reboot either way)
The latest version available before a significant drop in size of the
installer looks to be Dec 2006 - so I'll try that one tomorrow

Th-that's all, folks! (for tonight anyhow)

Install .Net 1.1 - only to get
..."Cabinet file for core components is not available but it's necessary
for
installation"....
at this point in the install of Dx9b, it was looking for
'bdasesetup.inf'
in a .cab file - so it looks as if they've removed the ME INF portion
from
the installer
.... June 2005 installs OK (with .Net installed)
....June 2006 actually states it supports ME! (will try tomorrow)
...Dec 2006 - downloading now for install tomorrow - no mention of ME in
the supports list

any bets on the file being NTDLL.DLL??

Yes Noel, and perhaps I should have qualified my statement "they were
both updated to the 'latest' version" - following a clean install. So
WU
doesn't 'appear' to want to update it further. It will be interesting
to
see if you can get it to accept anything later.

Thanks, Mart - The Dx9c is a bit of a pain - there's a new version
every
2 months!
I'm going to have a go with a later version in a VM and see if it
installs - will report back.

Both my WinMe boxes show Dx9.0c (4.09.0000.0904). Latest dated file
(I
can find) is 2004 and AFAIK they were both updated to the 'latest'
version using the WinMe AU early last year. The update history
confirms
that @ 27 March 2008

DX9c (4.09.0000.0904) is the latest or rather last version prior to the
release of Vista and DX10 (6.00.6000.16386) and DX10 SP1?
(6.00.6001.18000) that is part of Vista SP1. I'm not sure whether DX10 is
available for download.

What I think has happened is that MS have repackaged the installer perhaps
to fix problems some users might have encountered.

(July) 2004 fits my earlier comments. The last official Dx 'update' via AU
being End User Runtime. Thus, the latest WinMe version certainly seems to be
Dx9.0c. The 'further information' link from the AU history for the End User
Runtime just takes you to blurb about Dx10 and Vista. Not very helpful g

I've noticed the installer updates itself even though I only want LU to work
manually.
