Default Reinstalling ME - DLL missing

When I try to reinstall Windows ME at about 65% completion I get the
following error message:
"SUWIN caused a general protection fault in module verx.dll at 0002:24AE "

In the Microsoft knowledge base - it says the cause is "This issue may occur
when you try to reinstall Windows Me on a computer that has Windows Media
Player 9 installed on it. "

To resolve this issue, you can use an MS-DOS emergency disk to start your
computer. Then rename Windows Media Player files to revert your version of
Windows Media Player to version 7. After you reinstall Windows Me, you can
upgrade Windows Media Player to the latest version.

Here is the link to the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888555/en-us

I am fine at thecommand prompt when I type
• c:
• cd windows\system
But when I type:
• ren wmp*.dll *.lld
Or
• ren wmp.ocx *.xco
it says " required parameter missing"

I have no idea what they are looking for. I "think" the "ren" means rename,
and "wmp" means windows media player. I think I need to enter something at
the end of the line to rename Windows Media Player files to back to version
7.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot open any files
without getting "required .DLL file winspool.DRV not found"

thanks

Try this command from

C:\Windows\System (after using a boot floppy)

DEL WMPLOC.DLL (press Enter)

If successful, retry the WinME installation.
