Default How do I repair IE in Win98SE 4.10.2222A?

I rarely use IE for web browsing over Mozilla/Firefox, but a few things
are messed up on my old system that I think repairing/reinstalling
windows explorer would help fix. I vaugely remember something about an
option somewhere to "repair internet explorer", but I can't remember
where it was. I thought it was under the "tools" menu of Microsoft
System Information.

I should note that my OEM Windows CD with the proper drivers and other
stuff that came with the computer is damaged and unusable. I have
another Windows 98CD available that I copied from a friend, but I don't
think it's the same version of Win98SE. I haven't really checked it out
however.

Internet Explorer reports as being version "5.00.2614.3500"
The System Control Panel reports that I'm using
Microsoft Windows 98
Second Edition

Control Panel-Add/Remove has the Repair option for IE6. I don't recall
if there was a Repair in IE5 but I strongly suggest you upgrade that
ancient version of IE for better security.

Not there. The tools menu has the following options:
DirectX Diagnostic Tool
Windows Report Tool
Update Wizard Uninstall
System File Checker
Signature Verification Tool
Registry Checker
Automatic Skip Driver Agent
Dr. Watson
System Configuration Utility
ScanDisk
Version Conflict Manager

I don't use IE for that reason. I keep as much of it disabled as
possible, with nearly all the stuff in "internet options" set to
"disabled". I only use the Windows Explorer part of IE. I'm not sure if
I'm using the right term, but there are different buttons used when I
double-click on "my computer", "my documents", an item on the desktop,
etc than when I goto a web site or launch IEXPLORE.EXE.

Anyways, are you saying that I should just download & install IE 6 even
though I don't use it and don't need it just to repair the busted
Windows explorer? There is NOTHING about Internet Explorer or repairing
anything in Add/Remove programs, I checked.

Control Panel-Add/Remove has the Repair option for IE6. I don't recall

If you have no such entry, it's because you have NEVER upgraded IE from that
version which came with Windows. Yes, you should install IE6 SP1, even if
you never use it, unless you have a VERY specific reason for doing so
(application compatibility for example.) Security issues still apply even if
you don't actively use IE. IE is an integral part of Windows and gets used
even if you don't touch it.

No, Windows Explorer is not the same application as Internet Explorer.
Period.
